In a modern healthcare environment with stringent regulations and data privacy standards, managing the secure and efficient release of patient information is more crucial than ever.
As privacy regulations grow and the demand for timely access to medical records intensifies, healthcare organizations require robust solutions to handle these complexities. Enter Epic’s Release of Information module (ROI), a powerful tool designed to streamline the process of fulfilling medical record requests while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
In this article, we will explore how the Epic ROI module automates workflows, improves data security, and facilitates prompt responses to information requests, ultimately benefiting both healthcare providers and patients.
Navigating the Epic HIM Landscape
Epic’s Health Information Management (HIM) system provides intelligent tools designed to simplify medical records management activities, such as the release of information, coding and abstracting, chart and film tracking, chart deficiencies, and more.
Epic’s information management software plays a critical role in tracking and managing the lifecycle of critical patient health records, from creation and maintenance to secure storage and controlled access. Here’s a closer look at the key solutions included in the HIM technology suite:
ROI
The release of information module allows any user to track, manage, and fulfill patient health information requests and streamline associated processes.
By optimizing critical workflow tasks related to patient information requests, the ROI module enables users to create digital copies of a patient’s health records and release them through approved channels, ensuring compliance with critical data privacy and protection regulations.
Identity
The identity module empowers users to streamline records management tasks, saving valuable time and resources searching for patient information in a disorganized or segmented database.
With this module, users can also identify, manage, and resolve duplicate records, whether multiple records for the same patient or records for multiple patients with the same name.
Deficiency Tracking
Deficiencies have a critical impact on patient record completeness, ranging from incomplete charts to outstanding records, missing documents, unsigned documents, and more. With Epic’s deficiency tracking module, users can determine deficient records and monitor outstanding records to completion.
Care Everywhere
Seamless information sharing can be critical during periods of hospital crowding, where patients may be moved to other facilities that may not be connected besides through the Epic landscape.
The Care Everywhere module enables users to share patient records and other relevant information with other healthcare organizations that leverage Epic for patient data management, facilitating seamless data exchange and streamlining migration processes across systems.
Abstracting and Coding
The Coding and Abstracting module offers intelligent tools that help users simplify patient records management tasks, facilitating more efficient verification, review, and documentation activities across business units.
By leveraging support resources for advanced records management, users within your organization’s billing department can view and monitor all relevant financial activity for any hospital account.
A Deeper Dive into the ROI Module
The Release of Information function within the HIM module facilitates the secure and efficient handling of requests for patient health information, ensuring such requests are fulfilled in compliance with privacy regulations like HIPAA.
It helps manage requests from patients, legal entities, insurers, and other healthcare providers to maintain compliance with evolving requirements and keep patient data safe.
