Scenario
The client was in the process of migrating from a legacy Infor Lawson system to a modern, cloud-based Oracle landscape to eliminate inaccurate or unused data and ensure a consistent data structure in the new system. The client’s use of disparate systems required additional programming languages to pull the existing data out of the legacy Lawson system and transform it into the right format for the new Oracle Cloud system. Our consulting team was brought on to read the client’s existing COBOL program, query the extracted data through Lawson add-ins, and ensure that the information pulled from the legacy system was a full set of data.
Our senior-level consultants were also responsible for conducting data comparisons for the extracted data. They utilized tools like Power Query in Microsoft Excel to streamline comparisons, verify queries for adequate data sets, validate data in the backend Oracle system, and create reports once the data is fed into the new Oracle system.
Outcome
With a platform-agnostic COBOL program, the client and our consulting support team were able to extract and manage data quickly and easily, avoiding additional hoops to jump through and enabling the extraction of data straight from the existing system.
Our consultants also supported the client in core mining and mapping processes, ensuring that the data pulled from the legacy Lawson system was mapped to the right format for the new Oracle system and identifying the best way to report on and interpret the data in the new landscape. This way, the client could ensure the right data was extracted from their legacy system, transformed into the right Oracle format, mapped for simplified storage and organization, and interpreted for better business insights.
